I mean, imagine opening The Sun every day and finding page three adorned with a photo of a pouting specimen of masculinity clad only in his Y-fronts. Imagine naked men sprawling sensuously on the bonnets of new model cars at the motor show. Imagine having to listen to some sweaty and repugnant female version of Bernard Manning telling an endless string of Father-in-Law jokes. Sure, it’s funny once. Maybe it would be funny twice. But three times? Four times? Five thousand times? Can you imagine having to live with something as insulting as that every day of your life? No wonder so many feminists are cranky.
And comics are, in their way, every bit as guilty as other media in presenting a distorted vision of women to their readers. Maybe more guilty in some respects. After all, comics tend to be aimed predominantly at a young audience, an audience that may very well be going through an impressionable stage of their lives and desperately trying to make sense of the world in which they find themselves.
So… We had a problem with our mail server at work yesterday and it has not been completely fixed yet. Since I had quite a few urgent things to take care of, I had to use my personal email, which has a signature that links to my blog.
I forgot to remove the signature in a couple of emails and for a moment I was very afraid that I had sent my work contacts in here. Luckily, the link points on another blog that I had just recently flushed clean (so there is nothing in there).
I am not ashamed or anything for the things that I post in here, but some of them are really personal and I don’t want my work contacts to be that close to my personal life, especially since the only two real friends I had in my work place just left the company (one was made redundant and the other one has found a different place).
btw this blog sometimes turns into a place where i rant about how i hate a lot of thing aka the pro life movement and martin freeman and his stans
I have been away from Tumblr and feel like I missed something. Also, being on mobile makes googling and searching for specific Tumblr posts difficult. What did Martin Freeman say? I am surprised by all the sudden reactions so it must have been quite ugly…
A few moments ago, I reblogged that guy from Thor looking all sexy and hot. My rationale is that I post pictures of beautiful women fairly regularly, so why not reblog a beautiful man for the ladies (and some of the fellas).
Then I realized that these were pictures taken of him in a private…
This is understandable and a very nice thing to do!
On the other hand, can the ladies have a “legit” replacement picture now? :)
If you're a feminist who understands the (apparently not) radical concept that women can have penises and men can have vaginas (and that there are people with either or both of those who may very well identify as neither a man nor a woman), would you mind reblogging this? I could really use a little faith in humanity being restored right about now.
Forgive me for the anon ask, I don't have Tumblr. I love Firefly and SPN very much, but why you think SPN doesn't have strong women? Have you seen the whole thing yet? SPN is filled with amazing women: Mary, Ellen, Jo, Meg, Tessa, Lilith, Ruby, Anna, Bella, Lisa, Jody Mills, etc. I agree they are all beautiful, but it's Hollywood and all actors are lol. But I think SPN is better at female characters than Firefly. Yes, they often die, but even the men die in SPN. Only my opinon. Thanks!
No worries about the anon thing.
No, I haven’t seen the whole show yet, I am just at series 1 and so far none of the characters you mentioned has shown up - but thank you for mentioning those, it makes me thing that I’ll like the show even more when I get to the next series.
I probably should have mentioned that I am just watching the show now from fresh.
As for the fact that characters are all beautiful in hollywood stuff, yeah, it makes me smile sometimes: they are all so unbelievably pretty it gets surreal.
But I am saying all of this with a smile on my face, and not as an heavy critique - as I said, I enjoy the show.
